Smile Holiday Travel

Moderate | Scenic Ridge Trek | Paro → Thimphu

Overview

The Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek is Bhutan’s most pristine and least crowded trekking experience, ideal for travelers seeking raw nature, silence, and expansive Himalayan landscapes. Beginning near Thimphu, the trail quickly leaves civilization behind, entering a world of high-altitude meadows, glacial lakes, and open ridgelines.

Unlike more defined routes, this trek feels remote and exploratory. Its highlight is the Labatama basin, where dozens of shimmering lakes spread across a vast alpine plateau. On exceptionally clear days, distant Himalayan giants—including Mount Everest—can be seen on the horizon. This journey is perfect for photographers, solitude seekers, and those returning to Bhutan for a deeper, quieter experience.
